The mission of the Cumberland County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Program is to assist the court in deter- mining what is in the best interest of abused and/or neglected children whose cases are within the court system. Through objective investigation and observation with the focus on the child assigned, trained CASA volunteers will develop and present their recommenda- tions to the court to aid in establishing a safe, permanent and nurturing home in an expeditious manner.

Four Main Responsibilities of a CASA Volunteer:

  • Investigating the current and background facts thoroughly as a fact-finder for the judge
  • Advocating for the child's best interest by providing a factual written report to the judge and speaking for the child in the courtroom
  • Facilitating communication in the case
  • Monitoring the case until its completion

The Cumberland County CASA Program is an affiliate member of the National CASA Association and the PA CASA Association.
