Register of Wills
The primary function of the Register is to determine whether documents offered for probate should be admitted to the official record. The Register of Wills has the authority to appoint personal representatives for estate administration. The office processes all decedents' estate filings and Inheritance Tax payments for individuals who were living in Cumberland County at the time of their death.

Clerk of the Orphans' Court Division
The Clerk of Orphans' Court serves as the filing office for the miscellaneous division of the Common Pleas Court. Actions filed in this office include Accounts, Adoptions, Appeals, Claims against estates, Guardianships, Minors' estates, Small estate proceedings, and Trusts. This division is also responsible for taking marriage applications and issuing licenses for couples who wish to be married in Pennsylvania.
