The Cumberland County CASA Program requires all potential volunteers to complete 35-40 hours of preservice training conducted by the CASA staff and various professionals in the community. The training, which uses materials from the National CASA Association, addresses topics such as Children and Youth Services and the legal system, cultural diversity, child development, confidentiality and ethics, the role of the CASA volunteer, and community and social service resources. Prospective volunteers are also required to attend at least one dependency hearing as part of their training.
Preservice Training for new CASA volunteers is held in Carlisle over a five week period two times each year or as needed. In the spring, training is held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 pm. In the fall, training is held on 5 Saturdays from 9 am to 3:30 pm.
