Development influences the land use patterns beyond the individual municipalities in which they take place. Developments of Regional Impact are those subdivisions and land developments that potentially have regional impacts on traffic, housing, infrastructure, employment, school districts, or the environment. The Cumberland County Planning Department's notification process is an initiative to keep both municipalities and the public informed of major developments in neighboring municipalities.
The following criteria have used as a general basis for identifying Developments of Regional Impact.
25 or more dwelling units proposed
20,000 sq. ft. or more of floor area for commercial/industrial uses
