Volunteer Opportunities

Overview
We are in need of registered voters who are interested in working at the polls on Election Day. Over 900 election officials are required to work at the polls each election.

Duties
  • Opening and closing the polls (6:30 am until results have been tallied, usually between 9:00 pm and 10:00 pm)
  • Picking up supplies from the County office
  • Registering and signing in voters
  • Processing absentee ballots
  • Instructing voters on the process of voting
  • Tallying vote totals and returning results to the County building
Eligibility of an Election Official
  • Be a registered voter in Cumberland County
  • Have lived in your voting district for at least 30 days prior to elections
  • Be able to work two days a year (spring and fall)
  • Enjoy meeting other people and serving the public
  • Be detail-oriented, able to follow instructions, and not be easily distracted
  • Attend a training class prior to each election
  • Federal, State and County employees are not eligible
