Emergency Alert System
Getting information during an emergency situation is vital, especially at the height of the event when evacuation may be required.

Using the Emergency Alert System (EAS), emergency managers can provide critical information and instructions to the public. Radio and television stations provide the quickest means to obtain information.

Have a battery powered radio tuned to a local all-news or talk radio station. Consider purchasing a battery operated weather alert radio.

History of the EAS
In 1951, President Harry Truman established the first national EAS.

Although the technology has improved over the years, the goal continues to be to use broadcast media to provide emergency information to the general public as quickly as possible.
