Activities and Community Events

The activities program at Claremont provides an array of choices to meet individual needs and fulfill specific interests.
                                  Claremont Gardens                                 Resident Gardens
The Garden Club grows produce for the farmer's market that takes place in the fall.   Residents also enjoy baking cookies to sell in the gift shop, where all proceeds benefit future resident projects.

Whether a sports enthusiast, animal lover, or musically minded, residents will find a variety of activities to enrich their lives at Claremont!  We offer training for those interested in gaining computer skills. We have a Computer Cafe group that meets regularly. We also offer individual instruction by appointment, to setup an email account or to surf the Internet at your own pace.  A day on the town involves restaurant and shopping outings, a trip to the movies or theater.  Residents are also given the opportunity to spend time with volunteers during one-to-one visits.   Our monthly calendar shows some of the onsite activities our residents enjoy.  To discover what else Claremont has going on, you may also enjoy reading our monthly newsletter.

Other Fun Activities

Claremont's residents and staff entered the 2012 national Pink Glove Dance Contest to increase breast cancer awareness.  Their story was reported in the local newspaper in September 2012.  The video contest submission, which everyone enjoyed making, appeared on You Tube for almost a year, and was inducted into the Pink Glove Dance Hall of Fame on September 17, 2013.

Annual Claremont Canine Carnival

A special treat for dog lovers throughout Claremont and the surrounding community has been held annually in September since 2013.  Rescue groups are available to meet with prospective pet owners and to show off some of their pooches, resulting in some happy matches and "fur-ever" homes for lucky pups.  Many volunteers support the event, and residents make dog toys and other goods,  In 2014, the Carlisle Sentinel sent a photographer to cover the event.  See our Facebook page for photos of the events  and links to newspaper coverage.   All proceeds from the events are divided among the rescue groups to keep their good work going.
A feline carnival was held in early spring, with our 4th Annual Canine Carnival scheduled for October 8, 2016.

Hot Summer Fun Rally

On August 9, 2014, we cohosted a car rally with the Gettysburg Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America.  Photos of cars and the event can be found on our Facebook page.

Annual Halloween Activities

Each year, Claremont hosts a Trick or Treat Night for children related to residents, staff, and volunteers.  In 2013, we hosted nearly 200 costumed visitors and their parents, and 125 of our residents lined up in hallways to distribute treats.  Photos can be found on our Facebook page.  In 2014, we celebrated Trick or Treat on October 29, using the theme of Ye Olde Castle, and had a similar attendance and participation.  Last  year, the parade of ghosties and ghoulies took place Wednesday, October 28, 2015.
