The Department of Public Safety, in coordination with County Emergency Services agencies, established the Emergency Services Training Institute. The Institute provides a peer user group to assist in the management and operation of the training facility. The Department of Public Safety supports a staff position to coordinate and train fire and emergency medical services within the County.
Volunteers from the Cumberland County Fire Chiefs' and Firefighters' Associations, along with EMS personnel, make up the Emergency Services Institute. This group acts as a steering committee and is active in researching, planning and administering support for emergency services. The Institute interacts with other committees and elected and appointed officials to enhance the image of the County's emergency service organizations. The group has oversight for the Emergency Services Training Academy.
