Once you are approved for Homestead/Farmstead, you remain approved until you change your residence or sell the property. It does not expire.
Each year you receive a postcard from your school district confirming you are approved. If you are not, you receive an application for Homestead/Farmstead.
The impact of the Homestead/Farmstead program is a reduction of your school property taxes. The amount is shown on your school bill. It is not in the form of a rebate check sent to you.
The Cumberland County Homestead/Farmstead Exclusion applications are available at the Cumberland County Assessment Office and on the Website Assessment Office Forms. Please note: applications MUST be mailed to The Assessment Office at the address below; applications emailed to The Assessment Office will NOT be accepted. The Assessment Office is located in the Old Courthouse, One Courthouse Square, Carlisle, PA. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Applications must be received by the Assessment Office between December 15, 2020 and March 1, 2021. Please note that filing of the application is not an automatic approval or automatic tax exclusion. Approved applications are valid until there is a change in ownership of, or use of, an approved property. If you have an approved application on file you DO NOT need to reapply.
